United Arab Emirates qualify for an international cricket event after defeating Oman in their home ground
United Arab Emirates has qualified for the Asia Cup 2025 after the team defeated Oman by 55 runs in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final on April 21st at Al Amerat.
Batting first, UAE gave a target of 204 at the loss of 4 wickets. It was possible due to the efforts of UAE’s skipper, Muhammad Waseem who scored a century from 56 balls with six fours and seven sixes. He was aided by Asif Khan who made 38 runs from 16 balls and Alishan Sharafu who scored 34 runs from 28 balls.
Bilal Khan picked up two wickets for Oman whereas Zeeshan Maqsood and Shakeel Ahmad also got one wicket each.
UAE’s wickets fell to Zeeshan Maqsood, Shakeel Ahmad, and Bilal Khan. Khan got two wickets while Maqsood and Ahmad got one each.
Oman could only score 149 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. They could’ve lost the game at a lower score as they were 58/6 at one point. Pratik Athavale saved the team by scoring fast 49 runs. Other notable performances from the batting lineup were from Ahmad Fayyaz (23) and Khalid Kali (30).
The star bowler for UAE was Junaid Siddique who picked up three wickets. Muhammad Farooq and Aayan Khan picked up two wickets each.
This win is being noted as tremendous for UAE as they lost a series to Scotland last month. The skipper said after the loss “It does feel that if I go early my team is under pressure, “In the coming tournaments, I have to handle this.”
It was his efforts in the final game that made it possible for UAE to defeat the home team and qualify for the Asia Cup in which they’ll compete against the likes of Pakistan and India and he also won the man of the match.
Along with UAE, Oman and Hong Kong have managed to qualify for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup whereas Nepal has failed to do so after they lost the third-place match against Hong Kong.
