Cricket South Africa announce squad for the T20 World Cup 2024

South Africa has announced 15 names for their T20 World Cup  2024 squad on April 30th, Tuesday.

The team will be led by Aiden Markram for the first time in a global cricket event and that too will be hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Anrich Nortje has made a comeback to the squad since he was out of the team due to a back injury that occurred in September 2023.

Quintin De Kock, along with Anrich Nortje have been excluded from the central contract list after he retired from ODI cricket after the 2023 Cricket World Cup and his retirement from Test cricket in 2022.

Aside from De Kock and Nortje, uncapped players Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman have also been included in the squad after they performed amazingly in the SA20 tournament.

Rickelton performed incredibly throughout the tournament and became the leading run scorer with 530 runs at an average of 58.88 while representing MI Cape Town.

As for Baartman, he took 18 wickets in the eight matches he played while representing last season’s champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

The team will also take reserves Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi for the World Cup.

Also with the team, the coaching staff will travel including Head Coach Rob Walter, batting Coach JP Duminy, Bowling Coach Eric Simons, and Fielding Coach Wandile Gwavu.

The World Cup is set to take place in the USA and the West Indies on June 1. South Africa is scheduled to play their first match on June 3 against Sri Lanka in New York.
