Sophie Ecclestone: Personal goals are not that important for England

Sophie Ecclestone of England is adamant that her personal achievements are less important than England’s victories after becoming England’s all-time leading T20I wicket-taker on Friday, May 17th.

Sophie Ecclestone achieved the milestone of 117 against Pakistan when she took three wickets for 11 runs in the second T20I and moved passed Katherine Sciver-Brunt’s 114 dismissals.

It is also shocking that Ecclestone had no idea of her record and said that she is very bad with numbers and stats that when she saw herself and the record on the screen during the game, she didn’t realize that she had taken that many wickets.

She also admired Katherine saying that she was great and her role model when she was young. She also reminisced about taking her autographs a couple of times and overtaking her as the leading wicket-taker is surreal for her but it is also something that makes her really proud of herself.

But Sophie Ecclestone stressed that the biggest thing for her is to keep enjoying the game and what matters to her is winning games and tournaments for England such as winning the World Cups and Ashes.

Sophie Ecclestone joked that Sciver-Brunt would be fuming over her record being overtaken as she was a competitive player but she would be also really proud of Ecclestone’s achievement.

She added that the two were really close when they played in the same team and shared the same goals and traits of being hotheads on the field.

Despite winning the series by 3-0, Ecclestone claims that the Pakistani side was a lot harder to tamper down and control.

She called the visitors a force to be reckoned with and said that they know the game quite well and have lots of spin in their attack.

After the third T20I against Pakistan, Ecclestone’s wickets tally now stands at 118.
