Papua New Guinea Announce their Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024

Papua New Guinea has announced its squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to start next month in the USA and West Indies.

The PNG is led by Assad Vala who will be assisted by vice-captain CJ Amini.

The country sealed its spot at the World Cup by winning the East-Asia Pacific regional final in July 2023.

The squad for the 2024 edition of the event includes 10 players from the 2021 squad of the regional tournament.

The squad also includes the reserve player from the 2021 squad Jack Gardner.

The captain, Vala has stated that he’s confident in his team’s ability and readiness. Especially after tackling the dilemma of COVID-19 during the 2021 tournament.

The coach, Tatenda Taibu, although newly appointed has shown faith in the squad. He will be joined by Nathan Reardon as assistant head coach.

The squad also includes John Kariko, a young player who played in the U19 World Cup in the West Indies in 2022.

Papua New Guinea is grouped with hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Uganda, and Afghanistan. The team will play their first match of the tournament against the hosts West Indies on Jun 2.

Assadollah Vala (c), CJ Amini (vc), Alei Nao, Chad Soper, Hila Vare, Hiri Hiri, Jack Gardner, John Kariko, Kabua Vagi Morea, Kipling Doriga, Lega Siaka, Norman Vanua, Sema Kamea, Sese Bau, Tony Ura.

It should be noted that all teams and boards have been instructed to finalize their squads by May 25th and any changes made after the deadline will have to be approved by the ICC  first..
