Pakistan reveals squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the USA and the Caribbean from June 1 to 29.
The Babar Azam-led squad is the last squad to be announced for the event as the rest of the teams had revealed their squads earlier.
Among the 15 players, Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan have been selected for the T20 World Cup for the first time. Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim last played in the T20 World Cup in 2016 and 2021, respectively. The other eight players were part of the Pakistan team that participated in the T20 World Cup held in Australia in 2022.

The country’s record in the T20 World Cup has been impressive with them winning the title in 2009 under the leadership of Younis Khan and finishing as runner-up at the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007.
Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan has played the semi-final of 2021 and the final in 2022.
Other than that, the country has managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2010 and 2012 editions of the mega event.
The selection committee said that it is a very capable and balanced team with a blend of youth and experience. The players have been playing together for some time now and seem well-prepared for the global event.
The committee has also updated that Haris Rauf is fully fit and bowling well at the nets. They are confident that he will perform well in the upcoming matches as he will have a key role to play alongside other bowlers in the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan is currently playing a four-match T20I series in England of which the first match was washed out due to rain. The remaining matches will be played on May 25th, 28th, and 30th and then the team will fly to the USA to begin their World Cup journey.
Pakistan is grouped with the USA, Canada, India, and Ireland in Group A.
Pakistan’s first match is against the first-timer hosts USA on June 6th at Dallas.
