In a recent interview with Cricket Pakistan, he was inquired about the reason behind his sudden retirement. He was asked if there was some kind of pressure and because of that pressure you decided to retire from international cricket when you are the most well-performing all-rounder in Pakistan. Imad Wasim replied that that was his own decision to retire from international cricket and at that time he did not have any kind of pressure but because he was not feeling good mentally.
“Of course, it was my own decision to retire, and there was no pressure on me. I took retirement because I was not feeling good mentally, and I believe that is happening has some positive reasons behind it.” He responded.
Imad Wasim has always been one of the most fit players in Pakistan team. Every time Pakistan needed him both in batting and bowling, he did his best for his team. He took 109 wickets and scored 1472 runs. He was also a part of the Pakistan cricket team when they won the Champions Trophy back in 2017. According to Imad Wasim, he is still physically fit, and he is fit according to international standards.
“I’m very well fit if I am playing in leagues, it proves that I am physically in good shape also by international standards.”
In Pakistan, there is a history in cricket of players taking retirement and coming back and taking their retirement back. Saleem Khalik asked him that, is there any possibility that he could take his retirement back, on this he replied currently I am thinking about this but in case Pakistan needs someone then definitely it would be my national duty, but I haven’t thought about it specifically.
“Right now, I’m determined to my decision, and I don’t think I will take my retirement back, but if Pakistan needs someone then I will think about it, so we will see where life is going to make me stand in the future.”
Imad Wasim responded to a question, that stated that the selectors wanted you to play in the Asia Cup, but he did not show any interest in playing in the Asia Cup, they did not talk to me about this, on the other hand, I already signed a league contract, and I couldn’t leave that contract because of the reputation and respect they give to the players.
“I don’t know anything about me joining the Asia Cup, I wasn’t asked to join but in fact, I already signed for a league so I couldn’t leave that league, and honestly, I was unsure about the selectors if they would pick me or not so due to some financial reasons, I had to play 2 leagues in the past three years.”
Talking about the 4 consecutive losses against New Zealand, he said that he thinks that the bowling was good enough, but he thinks one of them must play till the end (Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman), which can change the overall outcome of the game. He said currently the spinners are not performing well, they just must work on the line and length and there must be some camps for the spinners to learn something new from experienced players. Talking about Shadab Khan, he said it’s a normal thing to lose form sometimes for a player.
“The players who have proved must not be doubted.” He said.
After 8 years of playing with Karachi Kings, he will now play for Islamabad United in PSL 9, and he said he hopes for the best and there was no issue with leaving Karachi Kings.
