CM PUNJAB MOHSIN NAQVI HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS THE FRESH 37th PCB CHAIRMAN
Mohsin Naqvi, who was the temporary Punjab Chief Minister, was chosen without any objections as the 37th head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday. He’ll serve as chairman for three years.
For the previous 13 months, the country’s cricket governing body had been without a chairman. During this era, the PCB became managed via temporary management committees. The news of the appointment of a new chairman came here after the PCB’s Board of Governors met at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, as said in a press release using the PCB.
Since January 22, 2023, Mohsin Naqvi has been serving as the current temporary Chief Minister of Punjab. Now he has been elected unopposed as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for 3 years. This news was announced by PCB’s Chief Election Commissioner, Shah Khawar, through a press conference held in Lahore on Monday. Mohsin Naqvi is ready for his new duties in the coming days.

Addressing the board members after his election, Naqvi said: “I am very honored and grateful to have been chosen as the chairman of the PCB without any opposition. The trust and confidence that they have in me is respectable.”
“I am fully dedicated to improving the quality of the game in our country and ensuring professionalism in the management of cricket in Pakistan,” he responded.
Naqvi will take over as the chairman of the cricket board, after Zaka Ashraf, the previous chairman of the PCB Management Committee, inside the Board of Governors. Zaka Ashraf joined the PCB’s Board of Governors on July 6 and took over as chairman, replacing Najam Sethi on the same day. Shah Khawar also mentioned that Naqvi can be both the chairman and the temporary Chief Minister of Punjab simultaneously.
“Mohsin Naqvi has been elected for the position of the Chairman of PCB. He will maintain the position for a term of 3 years beginning from today,” said Khawar.
“He added that there is no barrier legally to taking on the role of interim Chief Minister of Punjab and Chairman of PCB.”
Naqvi, a media channel owner who has been acting as the interim chief minister for more than a year, was appointed by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to the cricket board’s Board of Governors.
On January 22, Naqvi emerged as the leading candidate to assume the role of the new PCB chairman of the Interim Management Committee. On January 27, the PCB announced the body of its Board of Governors as per Paragraph 10 of the 2014 PCB constitution. Naqvi and Mustafa Ramday were nominated for the members of the Board of Governors.
So, for now, the question is how effective Mohsin Raza Naqvi will be in terms of performing in the position of chairman. What changes he will bring in the management that will directly affect the Pakistan team? And will he be able to pass these 3 years without any opposition and difficulty?
