Najmul Hossain Shanto asks for better pitches for future events
The skipper will lead the Bangladeshi team in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s captain, has asked for better pitches in Bangladesh to prepare accordingly for the future ICC event.
Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup preparation hit a snag as they lost the three-match T20I series 2-1 to the USA in Houston this week. The tournament kicks off on June 1st across the United States and West Indies and the team is in the USA for the tournament.
Taking the reins from Shakib Al Hasan in February as captain across all formats, the young Shanto (25) believes Bangladesh’s batting struggles stem from a lack of experience on good pitches

“First of all, we have to play on good wickets,” Shanto said. “Some people can take it as an excuse, but it is a fact that we play very few matches on a good wicket.”
“It is difficult to change things in six months. If we continue on a good wicket for one or two years, then these strike rates will improve,” he added.
Shakib was back in the squad for what will be his last World Cup. Mahmudullah Riyad will also play his last ICC World Cup.
“Of course, I want them to play in the World Cup, giving their best,” Najmul said. “It is their decision when they will end their careers. As a captain, I would like them to share their experience with every player.”
