Stan Van Gundy Reveals Wife’s Cause of Death Nearly a Year After Tragic Loss
Ex-NBA coach, Stan Van Gundy, has spoken out about his estranged wife’s passing, which took place in August 2023, saying she died of suicide. But during the “South Beach Sessions” podcast interview with Dan Le Batard, Van Gundy explained that to this day, he cannot overcome grief and it changed his life.
Kim Van Gundy, 61 years, was a part of Stan Van Gundy’s life for 35 years before her untimely death. It was a tremendous shock for Van Gundy as well as their family when she passed on suddenly. “I never dreamt that I would wake up the following day without this woman by my side,” he stated.
Even though he knew how hard she was fighting for her life, it remained unbelievable to him that she could commit suicide. ”The death of my darling sister has been one of the significant challenges that I have faced in my life because even now, eight months after her death, I still find it hard to accept the fact that I will never meet her again.”

Stan Van Gundy Struggles with Mental Health
Stan Van Gundy has not been close to sharing how he has been dealing with grief and he even went to therapy for this. He showed a high level of responsivity over the incident and even said he had to bear much guilt though his biggest responsibility was to protect Kim and their family. ”My wife felt she wanted to despise her life still living with me because her life was not worthy to live anymore She was expecting me to protect her and to provide for her a happy, joyous, fulfilling life but instead, I was the one who deserted her,” he narrated.
