Shaheen Afridi refuses PCB’s proposal of vice-captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup

It is being reported that Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi has been approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with an offer to become the national teams’ vice-captain and Afridi has rejected the proposal ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Afridi was made captain of the Pakistan cricket team on November 15 2023 after Babar Azam resigned from captaincy of all three formats.

In March 2023, Shaheen was removed as captain of the team and Babar was brought in as the skipper again of the white-ball cricket team.

This resulted in chaos and supposedly strain within the team and dressing room. Though such reports are mere speculations.

Shaheen’s refusal to accept the vice-captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup now makes wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan and spinner Shadab Khan candidates for the role.

The Pakistan cricket team is currently on tour of England where they had to play four T20Is with the first one being washed out due to rain.

The series will end on May 30th and the team announced on Friday, May 24th will fly to the USA to play their first match on June 4th against the hosts USA.

They will play their second match of the tournament against arch-rivals India on June 9th in New York.
