PAK vs ENG T20Is 2024: First T20I washed out due to rain
PAK vs ENG: The first T20I between Pakistan and England has been washed out due to rain. The match was supposed to be played on Wednesday, May 22nd at the Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds.
The covers came on during the day and stayed on as the match was called off.
The match was scheduled to start at 6:30 and now all eyes are on the second T20I which will be played in Edgbaston on May 25th.
Notably, this series is the last for both of the teams before the T20 World Cup begins in a matter of weeks and the series was supposed to act as warm-up for the home side and the visiting side as they both had opted out to play the warm-up games scheduled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the tournament begins.

Still, the situation isn’t all bad for Pakistan as the team has recently played a three-match T20I series against Ireland and won it by 2-1. The first match of the series was lost by Pakistan and it was the first time Ireland beat Pakistan in a T20I match.
Before the Ireland tour, Pakistan had hosted a five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home of which the first match was washed out and the two teams won two each of the four remaining games as the series ended on a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, England’s last T20I series was in January against West Indies which they lost by 3-2. A stricken defeat at the hands of a declining West Indies team.
The T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 1st with the first match being played between USA and Canada.
It should be remembered that Pakistan was supposed to reveal their T20 World Cup squad after the first match of the England series as the ICC has instructed to finalize squads by May 25th, this leaves Pakistan with no choice but to announce their squad by the deadline.
