Today, the NBA announced that Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers made it to the 2023-24 All-NBA Second Team, while his teammate LeBron James was selected for the All-NBA Third Team. Davis has been selected to the All-NBA team five times in his career, with two of those selections coming while he was playing for the Lakers. This is James’ 20th straight All-NBA award, with six earned while playing for the Lakers, further extending his record of most all-time selections to 20.

The Lakers player receiving All-NBA honors marks the team’s 99th and 100th recognitions in history. Also, this is the 35th instance in franchise history that Los Angeles has had more than one player named to the All-NBA team in a season, which includes the second time for Anthony Davis and James (2019-20). The two teammates are among a group of 20 players who have received All-NBA recognition while playing for the purple and gold teams.

During his fifth season playing for the purple and gold team, Anthony had a career-best performance with averages of 24.7 points (55.6 FG%, 81.6 FT%), 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks in 76 games, all of which he started. At the end of the season, the 31-year-old placed third in rebounds, fourth in blocked shots, and fifteenth in points in the league. Anthony Davis accumulated 64 double-doubles during the season, placing him third in the NBA, and also had two triple-double games.

Anthony Davis scored in double figures in 72 games offensively, with 58 of those games earning him 20+ points, 21 games with 30+ points, and three games with 40+ points. In 64 games, he grabbed ten or more rebounds, with 22 of these games having at least 15 rebounds, two games with at least 20 rebounds, and one game with 25 rebounds.

Anthony rejected shots in 48 games, with eight games having five or more blocks. He was among two players in the league to have an average of at least 1.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, according to Victor Wembanyama. The player from Chicago once again topped all NBA players in second-chance points per game (4.5) for the second straight season. Davis had a standout season by getting his ninth NBA All-Star selection and being chosen for the 2023-24 NBA All-Defensive First Team.

Moreover, he earned recognition on the All-Tournament Team for his contribution to the Lakers winning the first NBA Cup in Las Vegas and was also selected as the Western Conference Player of the Week on March 25. Davis has been selected to the All-NBA First Team in 2020, 2018, 2017, and 2015. In total, the NBA player with 12 years of experience has played 736 regular season games (729 starting) with Los Angeles (2019-24) and New Orleans (2012-19), with averages of 24.1 points (52.3 FG%, 79.5 FT%), 10.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks in 34.5 minutes per game.

LeBron James’ Stellar Performance

In his 21st year playing in the NBA, James played in 71 games (starting each one) and had averages of 25.7 points (with a field goal percentage of 54.0%, 41.0% from three-point range, and 75.0% from the free-throw line), along with 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in 35.3 minutes. This continued his streak of 20 seasons in a row averaging 25 or more points.

The NBA player who has been selected as an All-Star 20 times achieved a milestone on March 2 by becoming the first player in league history to reach 40,000 career points. He also extended his record of scoring in double digits for 1,222 consecutive regular season games. James added another achievement to his career by being awarded the NBA Cup’s MVP. He achieved this after recording impressive stats averaging 26.4 points (56.8 FG%, 60.6 3FG%, 77.5 FT%), 8.0 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.6 steals in seven tournament games, ultimately guiding the Lakers to victory
