WCPL to clash with men’s T20I series of West Indies

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is making history by scheduling the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) alongside the men’s national team’s series against South Africa in August 2024.

This is the first time a women’s franchise cricket league will run concurrently with a men’s national team’s bilateral series in the Caribbean.

The WCPL will feature three double-headers, with each double-header happening on the same day as a T20I match between South Africa and the West Indies. This creates a fantastic opportunity for fans to enjoy both men’s and women’s cricket at the highest level during this exciting cricketing season in the West Indies.

West Indies Cricket CEO, Johnny Grave, is enthusiastic about this “exciting new concept” for WCPL 2024. He believes fans will embrace the format, with the men’s T20I kicking off the day’s cricket action, followed by back-to-back WCPL matches. This scheduling allows fans to enjoy a full day of high-caliber cricket, featuring both men’s and women’s teams.

Grave told ESPN that women’s cricket continues to be a strategic priority for Cricket West Indies, and this is another exciting new concept for WCPL 2024.

They are certain that there will be huge interest from people in Trinidad in these double headers, as fans will be able to watch world-class international Men’s cricket, followed by the best female cricketers in the region competing alongside some of the best overseas players in the world.

The highly anticipated second edition of the WCPL will take place in Trinidad from August 21st to 29th, 2024. All matches will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Cricket fans can look forward to an extra dose of excitement with three double-headers scheduled for August 23rd, 25th, and 27th. These double-headers will see fans treated to both a men’s T20I and a WCPL match on the same day.

CEO of CPL Pete Russell added that he is very excited at the prospect of working with Cricket West Indies in the upcoming league.

He added that both of them are working together to provide the best experience for cricket fans and expect to have one more successful WCPL edition.
