Abhishek Sharma breaks Virat Kohli’s eight year old record in IPL
Abhishek Sharma breaks the record of Virat Kohli of hitting the most sixes in a single IPL edition by an Indian batter.
Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved the feat during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May, 19th Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
He struck six sixes in his fiery innings of 66 runs on 28 balls and took his tally of sixes to 41, breaking Kohli’s eight-year-old record of 38 sixes in a single IPL edition.
Kohli achieved the feat back in 2016 and no Indian batter has been able to break the record.

Abhishek Sharma is also the 16th most successful batter in terms of runs in the 2024 edition of the IPL with 466 runs in 13 matches at an average of 42.
Kohli is also the fourth on the list as he has struck 37 sixes in the current edition of the IPL.
The third spot is taken by Rishabh Pant of Delhi Capitals (DC) who struck 37 sixes in 2018.
The fifth Indian batter on the list is Shivam Dube of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who struck 35 sixes in 2023.
The overall record of hitting most sixes in an IPL edition is held by Chris Gayle who had struck 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2012. He’s also the third and fifth on the list with 51 sixes in 2013 and 44 sixes in 2011 respectively.
The second on the list is Andre Russell with 52 sixes in the 2019 edition of the IPL.
The fourth spot is taken by Jos Buttler with 45 sixes for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022.
