Vishwa Fernando joins Yorkshire for County Championship
Yorkshire County Cricket Club has updated their bowling attack with the signing of Sri Lankan fast bowler Vishwa Fernando.
He’ll be available for the upcoming County Championship matches against Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, and Derbyshire.
Fernando’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Yorkshire, who are currently struggling with injuries to key bowlers Matthew Fisher, Mickey Edwards, and Matt Milnes. The team sits sixth in Division Two with only one win in their last five matches.
Fernando’s recent form is promising. He played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s recent 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker with 10 dismissals at an impressive average of 16.10.

Fernando has played 23 Tests for Sri Lanka and has taken 64 wickets at a stunning average of 8.62.
He’s also expected to feature in Sri Lanka’s upcoming tour of England later this summer.
The Sri Lankan quick has already met his new teammates and will be in action for Yorkshire next week against Northamptonshire. It’s a red-ball-only deal, so he’ll return when the County Championship resumes in late June after the Vitality Blast.
Fernando joins captain Shan Masood as Yorkshire’s second overseas player for the Championship. South African Donovan Ferreira will handle overseas duties during the Blast.
Masood has been part of the Yorkshire squad since 2023 and was appointed captain of the county club as well.
