New Zealand’s Colin Munro retires from international cricket officially
New Zealand’s Colin Munro has announced retirement from international cricket of all forms.
His retirement comes after he didn’t make it to the New Zealand squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Munro last played for New Zealand in 2020 against India at Bay Oval in a T20I.
He concluded his career at 65 T20Is, 57 ODIs, and one Test. Combining all formats, he scored over 3000 runs.
Munro’s career comes to an end as New Zealand’s sixth leading T20I run-scorer as he has scored 1724 runs with an average of 31.
He is also the Kiwis’ leading century hitter in T20Is having struck three centuries.
Apart from these achievements, Munro struck the fastest century off 47 balls for New Zealand cricket at that time in 2018 against West Indies at Bay Oval. That hundred was Munro’s third hundred.
Expressing his pride in representing the Blackcaps Munro said that representing New Zealand has been his biggest achievement and he has never felt prouder than donning the Kiwi jersey, it makes him grateful that he got to do 123 times is something that he’ll be always proud of.
He said that it had been a while since his last appearance in the Blackcaps squad, he had never given up hope that he would one day get to return but with the announcement of the Blackcaps squad, this is the better time as any to announce retirement and officially close this chapter.
Munro debuted for New Zealand in all formats when the team toured South Africa in 2012-2013.
He was also part of the squads of the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups and the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
