County cricket to face a clash in schedules with IPL and PSL next year
County cricket is facing a clash with the next season of Pakistan Super League which is to be played from April 7 to May 20. The PSL is also going to clash with the next year’s IPL scheduled to begin on March 22 to May 26.
The clashes will probably result in at least 30 players missing the start of next year’s County season.
It is estimated that over 122 foreign players could be signed for the two leagues moreover, if there are injuries or sudden changes in commitments.
Ben Jones, an analyst, says there is a huge demand for English T20 talent worldwide.
Ben Jones has worked with Islamabad United in the PSL and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
He added that without objection from counties, it would be realistic to think anywhere upwards of 30 English players could be signed or drafted to IPL and PSL squads in 2025.
A total of 45 England players have appeared in the last three seasons of IPL and PSL.
Any of the players wanting to participate in the leagues would need consent from their cricket boards or No Objection Certificates (NOC) from their counties.
Other than IPL and PSL, English players have more opportunities in the shape of the Major Cricket League of the USA. Alex Hales and Jason Roy have both been given permission to play either MLC or Lanka Premier League and miss the Twenty20 Blast.
The clash in the schedules will also see an effect on the quality of players available for the countries to hire during the PSL window.
