Mumbai Indians become the first team to be kicked out of playoffs race of IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians of IPL have become the first team to be out of the race for the playoffs of IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians had not been playing well under a newly appointed captain, Hardik Pandya. The team started with three back-to-back defeats but managed to win three of their next four matches. They again met a losing streak of four games damaging their playoff chances.
Their situation at the points table worsened yesterday when Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Lucknow Super Giants in an amazing display of power hitting.
SRH were given a target of 166 runs to be chased down in 20 overs and they achieved that target with 10.2 overs remaining and at a loss of no wickets.
SRH’s win against LSG has put them in third place. They are succeeded by Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals who have secured the top two spots with 16 points each.

LSG and Delhi Capitals will see each other on May 14 and the contest will have one team with 13 points at the points table.
MI can get a maximum of 12 points even if they win their two remaining matches.
Their top performer has been Jasprit Bumrah with 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 6.20.
No other player of MI has performed well enough. Their bowlers weren’t economical and their batters didn’t score enough.
Tilak Varma is their highest-scoring batter with 384 runs at an average of 42.66.
Suryakumar Yadav follows him with 334 in nine matches and their former captain has scored only 330 runs in 12 matches.
Their current captain, Hardik Pandya has been in poor form as well and has faced a lot of criticism from Indian players as well as foreign players. He has only scored 198 runs in 11 matches.
None of their foreign players have managed to help the franchise despite having big names with experience under their belts.
Mumbai Indians have had a rich history at the IPL with five title wins. Their last trophy was in 2020 and since then they have only managed to get into the playoff stage only in 2023 when they lost to the Gujrat Titans.
In this edition, they have won three of their six home games only. Their away games have had a worse fate with only winning one away game against Punjab Kings.
