Scotland beats Ireland and make their way into the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
Scotland has beaten Ireland in the semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Qualifiers and has gained a spot along with Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup scheduled for later in the year.
The two teams will now compete in the final of the qualifier tournament on May 7th, Tuesday.
Opting to bat first, Ireland was found in trouble with Scotland’s captain Kathryn Bryce giving an all-round amazing performance.
Ireland has a fiery opening pair consisting of Amy Hunter and Gaby Lewis and the Scottish skipper sent the pair in the first over of the innings.
Ireland’s third wicket fell in the third over when Orla Prendergast was run out after scoring just 11 runs.
Ireland were left 21/4 as Bryce struck again and got the wicket of Laura Delany. Ireland was in grave danger with such a low score.
Bryce finished her spell of 4 overs with 4 wickets, giving away just 8 runs. Her last wicket was of Eimear Richardson, leaving Ireland at 25/5.
It was looking as if Ireland would get all out in the next couple of overs with a low score but Arlene Kelly and Leah Paul saved their team with a 60-run partnership.
Their partnership went on till the last over of the innings and Ireland finished on a respectable total of 110/9.
Paul and Kelly scored 45 and 35 runs respectively making themselves the most notable players of the innings.
The Scottish batters began their innings with style and ferociousness as Megan McColl smashed a 25 off 23 balls in the power-play and Scotland had already scored 41 runs in the first six overs of their innings.
McColl’s partner, Saskia Horley fell to Kelly and Bryce stepped in at Number 3.
McCool and Bryce maintained a brutal streak with the Irish bowlers.
It was soon that McColl finished her fifty off 46 balls and Scotland were getting closer to the target when again Kelly struck and got her out on the very next ball.
Kathryn was joined by her sister Sarah and the duo together took Scotland over the line and got their team to the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh making it Scotland’s first appearance at the mega event.
