Rohit Sharma discusses about Shivam Dube, four spinners in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024
On May 2nd, Indian Cricket Team’s captain Rohit Sharma conducted a press conference where he answered loads of questions regarding team selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
The team announced for the mega tournament had four spinners in their 15 men’s squad because Sharma wanted them but he did not want to reveal why he made the decision.
He said that he does not want to go into too much detail as I’m sure the rest of the teams are listening to this but rest assured that there is a little bit of technical aspect involved in the decision.
He added that when he will do the first press conference upon arriving for the World Cup, maybe he’ll give more details. He said that he wanted four spinners in the team and needed two of them to be all-rounders who could bat, Axar Patel and Rabindra Jadeja, and two powerful spinners them being Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

He also said the decision of the playing XI and the inclusion of the number of spinners in the squad will be made while keeping the opposition in mind.
Talking about the middle-order batsman selection, he brought Shivam Dube into the discussion saying that the top order has been alright but in the middle overs we wanted someone to come and play that role where the batter can play freely without worrying about who is bowling and who is not and Shivam seemed a good option for that considering his IPL performance and performance before the IPL as well.
Dube has been representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 and has scored 350 runs in this edition and is the third batter with the most sixes.
Before the IPL, he was explosive in the series against Afghanistan scoring the most runs (124) in the T20i series.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to start on June 1st with the first match being hosted by the USA for the first time.
India is grouped with arch-rivals Pakistan, the first-timer host USA, Canada, and the European nation of Ireland in Group A of the T20 World Cup.
Team India will play their first game in New York against Ireland on June 5th.
