Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten named as Pakistan’s head coaches
The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Gary Kirsten as head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team in the shorter format ahead of the T20 World Cup and Australia’s
Jason Gillespie has been named head coach of the Test team. PCB announced the changes on April 28th, Sunday.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the announcements in a press conference.
“Their stellar track records precede them, and I warmly welcome them to the Pakistan cricket family,” Naqvi said.
“The PCB is unwavering in its commitment to furnish the national team with top-tier resources and facilities, fostering an environment conducive to unlocking their full potential and consistently delivering stellar performances.”

Azhar Mehmood who had been named as a temporary coach for the team will now continue as the assistant head coach in all formats. Gillespie will have to step down from his role as the coach of South Australia’s cricket team.
All of the three coaches have been appointed for the next two years.
Kirsten is expected to join the team from the England tour that will have four T20i matches. The last T20i will take place on 30th May and then the team will go to the USA and the Caribbean for the World Cup.
Gillespie will join the team for the Bangladesh Test series in August. Gillespie has had various accolades and achievements under his belt.
As for Kirsten, he was the head coach of India from 2008-2011. He was also part of the team when India lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011 on their home soil. He then coached South Africa for two years and is currently the batting coach of IPL’s Gujrat Titans.
The position of the head coach has been vacant since January after former head coach Grant Bradburn left and joined Glamorgan as head coach.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will kickstart in June in the United States of America and the West Indies.
It’ll be the first time that America will host a major cricket event as for West Indies it will be the second time that they will host a T20 World Cup.
