Babar Azam talks about Kakul Camp, team fitness, and batting positions

Pakistani skipper, Babar Azam talks about Kakul Camp at a press conference on April 25th, Wednesday and answers questions from the gathered reporters.

A reporter queried if the fitness camp in Kakul is linked to the players suddenly becoming unfit.

“Everyone knows how tough those days were in general, not just the Kakul Camp. We had back-to-back series. We didn’t have much time to go home to our families for short visits let alone a break in the schedule. It was a tight schedule we were going through,” the captain cleared.

“But as a professional, we have to be ready for such days, and we have to be prepared to play games as well as give time to our fitness. That’s part of the game just as injuries are. We make sure each player is taken care of”

About the Kakul Camp he said, “ As for the camp, fitness is necessary. For the games as well as for our mental health during the games. We make sure to utilize the time we have to take care of our fitness. We do not compromise on our fitness.”

A reporter questioned Babar on the injuries during the Asia Cup and the World Cup. And that in Colombo Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were injured. Muhammad Rizwan and Azam Khan are injured right now before the World Cup. He was questioning how the team was going to manage more injuries if they were to occur.

To which the captain replied, “As I’ve said injuries are part of the game. Those who are injured are taken care of in the form of rest and rehabilitation by the board and the medical staff of the team. To keep ourselves on the safe side, we’re playing with different combinations so that we are prepared for anything. We are making sure all of our 15-16 players are good to go in any emergency situations.”

He also added that Muhammad Rizwan will be available even before the World Cup for the Ireland and England tours.

Another asked him about him playing one down and if it is going to be a regular thing to which he said it depends according to the situation, whatever the team needs will be given first priority.

“Our motive for this series is to experiment as much as we can. We are giving proper opportunities to everyone and we communicate with everyone.”

He also said, “The rumors of players not being happy with their positions are just rumors. Everything is discussed with each member of the team and everyone knows everything before the final decision is taken. They all agree on what is best for the team and that is our main motive.”

The t20 World Cup Is set to begin in June in the United States and the West Indies. Pakistan’s match against the arch-rivals India will be played in the United States.
